Training and Cultural Studies

We live and work in the United States, but our work is cross cultural. The Lakota that we serve are distinct in so many ways from the dominant American culture. Their story as a people is rich and dramatic, knowing what it means to thrive and also endure against the odds. We seek to honor Lakota history and culture, as well as the cultures of all indigenous people throughout North America.

We entered into Native American culture as learners and we will continue as learners throughout our time here. Attending classes on history and language at the Ogalala Lakota College, reading, and interacting with people and listening to their stories is how we learn.

Additionally, we are engaged in leadership training and theological study with our sending organization Mission Alive. This process includes reading and dialogue, discipleship cohorts, and mentorship.
